Or like &#8216;backles&#8217;,   a word I learned while reading the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/One-Belongs-Here-More-Than\/dp\/0743299396\/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1\/102-1510003-7531311?ie=UTF8&#038;s=books&#038;qid=1190921744&#038;sr=1-1\">Miranda July book<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s not. It&#8217;s a crunchy, hippie computer thing!<\/p>\n<p>A high schooler showed this to me today (for me, this denotes a change in my information sources &#8211; it used to be <a href=\"http:\/\/boingboing.net\">BoingBoing<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/chronicd.com\/\">Jason<\/a>, and now it&#8217;s 17-year-olds).<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s straight-up Google, but with a black background and white text. From the <a href=\"http:\/\/blackle.com\/about\/\">about page<\/a> &#8221; Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. &#8216;Image displayed is primarily a function of the user&#8217;s color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen.&#8217; Roberson et al, 2002.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blackle.
