Here is a compilation of what I've gotten so far! Stephanies Ponytail by Munsch was mentioned several times.
I love telling Epossumondas, especially with really, really bad fake Southern accent. Everyone Knows What a Dragon Looks Like also "tells"well, with a few minor things deleted. Stephanie's Ponytail works well, especially if you have a girl (or boy) with long hair that is willing to let you show the different kinds of ponytails.
The Great Fuzz Frenzy by Janet Stevens is fun to read aloud and kids love the story.
Some of my favorite picture books that tell well to school age are "Library Lil" "Kiss the Cow" and "Bubba the Cowboy Prince"
Findlehopper Frog is another about bullying.
Wait, I want to tell you a story! By Tom Willans Down in the Dumps with the Three Nasty Narlies by Keith Graves Finklehopper Frog Cheers by Irene Livingston Mabel Oleary Put Peas in her Eary by Mary G Delaney
I've done "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" by Jon Scieszka with a wolf puppet telling the story. You can get the kids to help the wolf sneeze. Once you learn it by heart, it's fun to tell. The other story that's been popular is "The Little Rooster and the Diamond Button" - very interactive. I've learned that one by heart too. Both great stories.
I don't know if you are looking for a short novel or not, but I love "The Legend of Spud Murphy" by Colfer. It made me laugh out loud. Sorry if you already have heard or tried it.
