Rock-a-Baby Band by Kate McMullan is a fun story. It comes with a CD of the song. I pass out rhythm instruments and let everyone join in on the "Shake it, baby, shake it. Shake it if you can..." chorus.
I did a music storytime awhile ago and used the book Jazz Baby by Carole Boston Weatherford and Tiger Can't Sleep by S.J. Fore. (Can't remember my third book tho.) You can get the kids to "play" and imitate the instruments in the first one, and the second one has lots of satisfying noise to prompt them for. That whole storytime was the noisiest and liveliest I've ever done, and the kids had a blast.
Since the word 'onomatopoeia' is the word for vocalizing the sound words, try using it in your keyword search. If your library's catalog doesn't use that word, try Amazon to find some titles and then go back to your own catalog! Does your library have Flush! An Ode to Toilets by Charlie Williams? He's a friend of mine and a children's performer. He can make a toilet flush sound like no one else. The book also has places where you jiggle a handle, etc. What about Kate McMullen, who wrote, I Stink! (I think that's the name...) and others, which use onomatopoeia.
I don't have a book suggestion, but one thing that always gets the kids looking at me like I'm awesome is when we sing Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. We'll do it a couple of times, first regular, then in slow-motion, then really fast, then in whispers .... then, with a quick disclaimer that we can only shout while we sing right now, and not when we go back up to the children's room ... we SHOUT the song. It's great, since the song is full of short phrases.

Craft: Tambourine
Supplies: paper plate with two holes punched in it (about 2" apart), pipe cleaner with a bell on it, crayons & markers.
Setup: have one paper plate set out for each child and have the crayons & markers in the middle of the table.
Directions:
1. Have each child find a spot at the table with a plate.
2. Show them the example of what they are going to make.
3. Instruct them to decorate their tambourine however they would like.
4. When they are finished decorating both sides, have them give it to you and then you can attach the pipe cleaner with the bell on it. Then they are finished!

Notes
I have listed more books than what you will need for your storytimes. I like to have choices and I thought that you would too. On average, I would recommend reading about 5 books. However, it is best to observe children and go from there. I have tried to complete a list that allows flexibility. There are a few books that work for younger children. (Please be Quiet!, Yip, Snap! Yap!, Buzz and Goodnight Moon are good choices for most toddlers). I hope that you enjoy this theme as much as I do. The children always find delight in these books.
